Our Special Guest: Joyce Scardina Becker, CMP

An inspiring teacher, a skilled event designer & planner, and an internationally recognized expert on
weddings and special events, Joyce Scardina Becker magnanimously leads Events of Distinction, an event design and planning company based in San Francisco. In recognition of her accomplishments as one of the nation’s top event professionals, Joyce has been honored with 13 international Esprit and Gala Awards, as well as 26 nominations.

Joyce is the Founding President of the Wedding Industry Professionals Association (WIPA), the first national non-profit association created specifically for providers of wedding products and services. Its mission is to advance the wedding profession, enhance the professional growth of its members, uphold the highest ethics, and educate the public.

Joyce is the author of Countdown to Your Perfect Wedding, a groundbreaking “how-to” book for couples and aspiring wedding professionals, which received an Esprit Award from the International Special Events Society for “Best Industry Contribution.” Published by St. Martin’s Press, Countdown to Your
Perfect Wedding is organized into 52 chapters, one for each week of a yearlong planning process.

Joyce is the Founding Director and Instructor of the Wedding Planner Certificate Program, offered
annually at California State University East Bay. This intensive 40-hour program was the first of its
kind on a university campus, providing a comprehensive education for students who wish to pursue a
professional career in wedding management.

Joyce’s ideas and designs have appeared in over 200 media outlets, including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The Miami Herald, The Huffington Post and msn.com. Her words of wedding wisdom have been translated into several languages, and she has been profiled in Special Events Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle and Elegant Bride magazine. Joyce had served on the Advisory Boards of Catering Magazine and Special Events Magazine, as well as the “Northern California Expert” for The Knot.
